Genius Users
User Interview: marionettemythic
shark: Hello kaykayrumi, welcome to the interview. I'm glad that we can finally sit down and have this conversation. I have carefully prepared for this interview and tried to get as much information about you as possible, so I hope the questions will be insightful. How do you feel, are you ready?

kaykayrumi: I am quite ready :D

shark: Amazing, let's go!

kaykayrumi: i don't have nitro but pretend i sent a dancing parrot

shark: Let's start with your beginnings. I read that you joined Genius in September 2018 because you wanted to еdit the lyrics of the track "Sombra vs Spy" by JT Music. Howevеr, you state that you only started to become more communicative in 2023. I was wondering what changed in that year that made you become more active and communicative? Could you possibly elaborate on your beginning on Genius?

kaykayrumi: I got more communicative in 2023 after starting mentorship for Transcriber in February. When that started, I began to talk more often with higher-up Game Genius members & people from other communities, namely ones in the Genius Discord which certainly helped me getting a bit more talkative on-site.

As for my beginnings, I kinda just chilled and edited the lyrics for Rockit Music and a few other nerdcore artists, until the aforementioned mentorship. To be entirely honest, next to no fun things happened during this time, lmao

shark: Oh interesting, I've honestly had it pretty much the same way. I started talking to people after I was a Transcriber and then after I was an Editor. Up until then, I was pretty much only talking to my mentor haha. It's probably a recurring pattern in the community

I would like to move on to a later phase of your Genius career now. During your time on the site, you organized many different projects. I would like to ask which was/is your favourite and why?

kaykayrumi: Game Genius: The Updates! It's a series where you write (basically articles) about gaming & nerdcore artists. It's so much fun to ramble about artists I love, so definitely something I love and am passionate about.

Though I will say Genius of the Month was great fun to host as well. Will be awesome to return to this eventually!

shark: I honestly kind of expected you to say Game Genius. It's kind of obvious from your profile, but I wanted to double check :D.

I'm personally not sure what state Game Genius was in before you guys picked it up, but I'm guessing no one really paid attention to the project too much?
kaykayrumi: Well, as far as I can tell, Game Genius always thrived in the forums and open discussion - when we picked it up, a lot of that was gone, and I think we did/are doing a decent job at reviving parts of that with Game Genius: The Updates, Quarterly Updates, and a few other upcoming things.

shark: Well, I'm glad Game Genius is in good hands. Maybe I could contribute a little too 👀

Speaking of games, I know you like to play Apex Legends and Overwatch. What other games do you enjoy?

kaykayrumi: That'd be awesome!

As for games, Overwatch has always been the most fun one for me. Aside from that and Apex though, I'll always have a love for Indie games! Five Nights at Freddy's, of course, is my favorite media franchise of all time. But games like Cuphead, Bendy and the Ink Machine/Bendy and the Dark Revival, Indigo Park, etc. are very awesome as well

shark: Indie games are great, I'm not a big gamer, but when I used to play games I always liked smaller indie games and smaller studios. Could you tell me how many hours you have on Apex Legends though, haha? I used to play Apex too, I have maybe 200 hours on it 🦈

kaykayrumi: on PS5, a little over 260 - and on Nintendo Switch... a little over 2.1k, next question

shark: Sure, I also noticed that you're a collector of CDs, vinyl and physical media in general. When did you start collecting them?

kaykayrumi: Tbh, I've been collecting for as long as I can remember. I do remember the first vinyl I got, which was a picture disc of Bad by Michael Jackson, specifically the one released in 2012 for Bad's 25th anniversary. I think that was in 2014. :P

shark: Well, that's been over 10 years now! I honestly didn't expect it to be that much, you've surprised me 🤯. Speaking of music, we are slowly approaching the end of 2024 and I would like to know what is your favorite album or which albums did you like this year?

kaykayrumi: THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT

but also, I loved Billie Eilish's HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, Derivakat's very recent compilation, RE//TAKE, and I know this one wasn't released in 2024, but Chappell Roan's Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.

shark: Great, do you have any more albums you're looking forward to this year or is everything already released?
kaykayrumi: Juice WRLD's The Party Never Ends just got a release date (November 22)! So I'm pretty excited for that

Aside from that, not much more that I'm actively aware of :0

shark: You're right, I don't listen to Juice much, but I'm also quite curious about this album (mainly because of janick)

I was wondering, have you been to any concerts this year, do you go to concerts at all?

kaykayrumi: Unfortunately, I have never been to a concert 😢 I wanted to go to The Eras Tour soooo bad, but like most Taylor fans, tickets sold too quick 😭

I really wanna go to Nerdcore Party Con next year, it's an awesome convention of gaming & nerdcore artists that happens annually

shark: Oh, sorry to hear about The Eras Tour, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you next year! I have my last question now. What are your future plans for Genius? 👀

kaykayrumi: I have four big plans! Fix drama with users I've clashed with, bring back Genius of the Month, write some community articles, and of course, keep working on Game Genius with the awesome people who've been helping.

shark: Sounds great, I hope it all works out and that you continue to be as active on Genius as you have been. Thanks so much for the interview and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

kaykayrumi: Thanks for the kind words!

The interview was tons of fun, and thank you very much for hosting it! 🙏
