Genius Users
User Interview: 1devin
justloveJB: Hello there! How are you doing today? Ready for our interview?
dev: Hey, I'm doing great. Ready to go!
justloveJB: That’s good. Well, before we start, I have a question for you: If you were an apple, would you prefer to be juiced, sauced, cidered, or spiced?
dev: Not gonna lie, I would love to be juiced. It probably feels mad good for the apples
justloveJB: Solid choice. I would honestly either bе juiced or cidered. Now that wе've gotten that out of the way, you ready?
dev: Yeah, hit me!!
justloveJB: Great! Let's get started. For my first question, do you remember what it was that made you join the Genius community?
dev: To be honest, I’ve always went on Genius since I was very young to check on lyrics, but never really knew how it worked. I believe I joined around late 2022? but never really got active until early 2023. If I can recall, it was to try my luck at transcribing some song on YouTube.
justloveJB: Real. I think I joined because Fran Vasilić was missing a lot of stuff on his songs. And had you heard about or known of Genius prior to creating an account?
dev: Yeah, since I was like 7 maybe
justloveJB: Ah. Do you contribute to lesser-known artists, popular artists, or a mix of both?
dev: Definitely a mix of both, they can be ranging from four-digit monthly listeners or so (Underground) to like popular album releases.
justloveJB: Cool! Are there any songs you've transcribed that you worked really hard on or maybe you're really proud of?
dev: This was one I remember, I did it because I want Rio free. Free Rio.
Also, this was one of my first scribes for a “popular” artist that I actually enjoyed listening to
justloveJB: I'll check it out! I know this next question is a little unrelated to the previous one, but what's been your favorite release? (this can be any song, EP, album, LP, etc.)
dev: In 2024, For What It's Worth – Corey Lingo is for sure my favorite by far. Super underrated.
Some others that I've been listening to this year include Pi'erre Bourne’s The Life of Pi’erre 4 and The Smiths' The Queen Is Dead
justloveJB: Interesting. Again, this question might be kinda weird considering the last question was kinda unrelated...Do you have any advice for other contributors or people who may not be confident in their contributing skills?
dev: Yeah, for sure
One thing that I would definitely say is to keep working. Finding a mentor is also something that I would recommend, as that helped me a lot. One day or day one type ish
justloveJB: Got it! Is there anything else you would like to add?
dev: Nettspend dropping soon, stream Corey Lingo, shoutout @dash, shoutout @ty, shoutout glaive, shoutout Haliey Welch, shoutout my mom, shoutout you, देविन् आगच्छन्
justloveJB: Alright. Well, I really, really enjoyed our little interview! I hope you have a great day. 😀
dev: You too!
