Could It Be Me
The glory of Egypt, its wealth and its power, shines as bright as a bird that was fire
Splendor and majesty, silver and gold, are all that a man could desire
Hey! I could stay here and look out for myself. Why should I care about anyone else?
These Hebrews, these slaves, these people I see, should mean nothing to me
But lately I'm haunted by visions, and thoughts, and feelings that I can't explain
They trouble my sleep and they torture my dreams. They sound and resound in my brain!
I know it's not right. I know it's not fair
But why should I worry? Why should I care?
I should turn my back, just walk away, have nothing to say!
But the blood of Abraham flows in veins!
I see their misery and I feel their pain
It keeps pulling me on, like a moth to the flame
It won't let me be!
The Spirit of Isaac cries out from the grave
"These are the Children of Jacob. They're not Pharoah's slaves
Jehovah will send somebody to save them and set them free."
Could it be me?
I'm not an angel and I'm not a king. I'm just a mere, mortal man
But, if I run away from this burden I feel, then I'll have their blood on my hands
But what can I do, and where can I start
When there's fire in my soul, and there's pain in my heart?
What bridge will I burn? What price will I pay?
"God help me," I pray!
'Cause the blood of Abraham flows in veins!
I see their misery. I feel their pain
It keeps pulling me on, like a moth to the flame
It won't let me be!
The Spirit of Isaac cries out from the grave
"These are the Children of Jacob. They're not Pharoah's slaves
Jehovah will send somebody to save them and set them free."
Could it be me?
But the blood of Abraham flows in veins!
I see their misery. I feel their pain
It keeps pulling me on, like a moth to the flame
It won't let me be! (Won't let me be!)
The Spirit of Isaac cries out from the grave
"These are the Children of Jacob. They're not Pharoah's slaves
Jehovah will send somebody to save them and set them free."
Could it be me?
Could it be?
Could it be me?
