Jason Isbell
Stockholm (Live)
[Verse 1]
I've heard love songs make a Georgia man cry
On the shoulder of somebody's Saturday night
Read the good book, studied it too
But nothing prepared me for living with you
[Chorus 1]
Lock me up tight in these shackles I wear
Tied up the keys in the folds of your hair
And the difference with me is I used to not care
Stockholm, let me go home
[Verse 2]
Once a wise man to the ways of the world
Now I've traded those lessons for faith in a girl
Crossed thе ocean, thousand years from my home
In this frozеn old city of silver and stone
[Chorus 2]
Ships in the harbor and birds on the bluff
Don't move an inch when their anchor goes up
And the difference with me is I've fallen in love
Stockholm, let me go home
[Bridge]
And the night so long
I used to pray for the daylight to come
Folks back home
Surely have called off the search and gone back to their own
[Chorus 2]
Ships in the harbor and birds on the bluff
Don't move an inch when their anchor goes up
And the difference with me is I've fallen in love
Stockholm, let me go home
Let me go
Let me go home
Thank you
[Outro]
This next one here was one that I wrote, um
It's very literal, you know, sometimes you get an idea for your song
And it doesn't make any sense at all
And then sometimes it's just whatever you're doing right then
Uh, you just repeat it over and over
And it becomes your song
And I was, uh, in an airport
And I was sittin' waitin' on the plane to board
And there were people sittin' very close to me but I didn't know any of 'em
They were all strangers and
I thought "Man, I am tired of travelin' alone"
And, uh, yeah
And then I thought "Wait a minute
I think I'm onto something
Maybe if I just say that over and over
It'll become a hit song"
And it's really sometimes, it's just that easy, I hate to tell you
I wish there was some kind of magic
But sometimes you just say some shit twelve times and there you go, um
But I know, I, I know myself well enough to know that I won't remember those things later on in the day
So I sang it into my phone
And there are people on either side of me, you know
And so I had my phone and I was singing into the voice memo
And I was doing, you know, holding it up where nobody could hear what I was doing
'Cause it's embarrassing to sing into your phone in public, um
And then when I got home I thought
"Alright, I got this song, I'm gonna listen to it, I'm gonna write the rest of it, let's see how it goes"
And it just, it, and it, it just sounded like this
[Unintelligible noise]
No idea what the melody was supposed to be
So I came up with this melody
