King Henry
Verse 1:
King Henry VIII, a man of great power
Led England as it's king, from tower to tower
But his reign was marked by much unrest
His actions, often leaving many depressed

Verse 2:
He came to the throne, a young man of eighteen
Full of promise and vigour, ready to lead in his scene
But his throne was threatened by foreign might
So he declared wars, his army ready to fight

Verse 3:
The Pope refused to grant him what he sought
A divorce from Catherine, he pleaded and fought
So he broke away from the Catholic Church
Formed the Church of England, new doctrines to search

Verse 4:
Henry’s marriages were many and fine
But few of his wives lasted a long time
Anne Boleyn was beheaded for treason
While Jane Seymour died after giving him a son
Verse 5:
O the great Anne of Cleves, a queen for only a day
Fell out of favour, and was sent on her way
Catherine Howard, also met a grim fate
For committing adultery, she met the axe's wait

Verse 6:
While Catherine Parr was the only one to survive
The King's final years, desperate to thrive
She outlived the King, and lived to tell the tale
Of how she faltered, but ultimately prevailed

Henry turned to art, and literature too
Did his best to help and create anew
He founded schools, and built his court
Through his reign, England became a land of great import

Henry’s love for hunting and jousting
Brought fame and glory, much inspiring
His skills on horseback, forever renowned
As was his imposing figure, very well known
Verse 9:
But his health began to deteriorate
His leg gave him trouble, causing much ache
As his life drew to a close, his throne insecure
His legacy still great, much to endeavour

His children followed him to the throne
Edward, Mary, and Elizabeth, each with all their own
His son Edward the VI never did last

Henry VIII, a man of many faces
Had the gift of shaping England's great places
His reign may have been filled with much strife
But it left England with a proud, rich life

Verse 12:
Now his great deeds we may hold in light
Remembering him with great delight
His reign may have been, so many years ago
But his mark still burns bright and aglow
