Julius Caesar essay
Julius Caesar was a courageous and really good with people. But when he went into battle he was a different person. Around this Shakespeare wrote a play called, “The Tragedy of Julius Caesar” it was one of his most popular plays ever. In this play Shakespeare portrays Caesar’s personality and character in two important ways: his beliefs about himself and the government and his motives for making the choices he makes.

Shakespeare portrays Caesar’s personal and political beliefs in these following quotes. “Yet if my name were liable to fear, I do not know the man I should avoid so soon as that spare Cassius”. This is a personal belief because Caesar is saying that with power he has no one can get in his way and that he is unstoppable. He isn’t scared of Cassius therefore he won’t waste his time with him; granting Cassius time to make a sneaking plan behind Caesar’s back to kill him. In the play Julius also says, “He is a great observer”. And “he looks quite through the deeds of men”. This is a political belief because he keeps an eye out for his people and that he cares about them. Therefore he is doing his job as a leader but not a king. Julius Caesar also looks at things differently, he’s understandable and puts himself in others people shoes and looks at it from their perspective. In other words he likes looking out for his people and likes to take care of them for example; he gives people jobs and throws parties for everyone. Politically he is a man who thinks too much of himself and thinks no one can stop him nor is superior to him.

Furthermore, Shakespeare also portrays Caesars motives for making the choices he makes. As read in the play, Caesar says, “Would he were fatter!” This is a motive because Caesar was being more cautions against Cassius. Cassius is sneaky and very skinny, he can’t be trusted. Which cause Caesar to keep an eye on him but yet sneaky Cassius managed to make a plant to kill Caesar with the rest of the senate. Caesar says, “Such men as he be never at heart’s ease while they behold a greater than themselves”. This is a motive for Julius because men like him are never satisfied so he keeps pushing himself to bigger heights. “I came, I saw, I conquered!” (Document C) meaning he say what he wanted which was Rome and he conquered! This made him wanting more and more because Rome wasn't enough. Caesar motives are caused by people he has suspicion about. He will always keep pushing himself to be better than any other man out there.

In conclusion, Julius Caesar personality is portrayed in this play as a man with a lot of power and a caring man for his people. Yet he can’t have ALL the power because the court doesn't want a ruler making all the decisions and laws. But since it looks like that’s where its heading they decided to assassinate Caesar.
