Rap Genius
RG Interview #3: Local-K
How did you start rapping?
It was February of 2012 and I had just started listening to Hip Hop. I’ve always been a musical person, so when I started listening to Rap music I decided to take a go at it, and here we are. It was a spur of the moment kind of thing, but it turned out to be one of the biggest decisions of my life
Who are your musical influence?
Blink-182 is my favorite band of all time. Before I started rapping they were who inspired me as a person, and that still translates through my music today. I tend to find myself playing Outkast more and more these days, so they too are starting to rub off on me. I think my biggest influence in Hip Hop is Kanye West though, especially because of his artistic creativity and overall badass-ness. The way he’s shaped Hip Hop culture is undeniable, and that’s something I think we all can be inspired from and strive to achieve one day
Tell us how New Millennium Gods came about
It was around 4 in the morning and I had work at 8. I couldn’t sleep so I decided to hop on FL Studio and see what I could whip up real quick. I was thumbing through samples when I came upon this really trippy jazz song. I literally threw the song into FL, made one chop and looped it. The beat was sinister and grimy, unlike its original sample, which was groovy and psychedelic. I wanted to say some nasty rhymes, so I went out of my way to be just as dark and grimy as the beat. The next day I asked my homie to drop a verse and just like that, history was made. Fuck yeah
How do you feel about your ranking?
I took third place yo, that’s pretty tight. It’s especially tight considering how hard RG sleeps on me, though I guess some people are hearing me if I took third. Shouts to Niday on taking first, we all knew that was coming right?
Do you have any other projects in the works as of now?
I just dropped my debut project Youngbloods which I’m still trying to push. I’m always making music, but as far as sitting down and mapping out my next project? No, that’s the least of my worries. I do have music videos in the works for a few more tracks off of Youngbloods, so look out for those. Here’s the first one for Freakshow.
What do you have to say to your fans and your voters?
I have nothing but love for my fans and the people who took the time to vote for me, it really does mean a lot. All I ask is that you keep sharing the music so we can take this even farther. If you haven’t downloaded Youngbloods, you can do so here. You can follow me on Twitter and on Facebook. If you like my music, make sure to hit me up! I love to talk with ya’ll
Where do you want to eventually end up in terms of your music?
As long as I’m able to make a living off of my music I will die happy. I’ve always had that dream of being a rockstar, and who knows? The sky’s the limit, and that’s pretty exciting to think about. Being a legend is something I’ll always strive for, but being able to consistently make good music, support myself and my family for now, is what I’m focused on
