Rap Genius
RG Reviews - Lil Wayne’s Funeral
Lil Wayne's follow-up to Tha Carter V proved to be a positive come-back for the most part according to the Genius Community. There were many that appreciated the direction Wayne was going in for this project, some claiming that it was one of his best projects since Tha Carter IV. It was agreed that the first four tracks are where Wayne really hit the ground running. The production and lyricism levels proved that he could still rap like he was in his prime, and showed that he was still hungry to prove himself in the rap game. With tracks like the community favorites, "Mahogany" and "Mama Mia," Wayne showcased his still solid rapping talent. The features were also a highlight for many people, most stating that there wasn't a bad feature artist through the whole project.
However, the community did have their gripes with the album. One of the main concerns was that the album seemed to have a bunch of filler tracks, as the album ran at 24 tracks long. Another main problem was that none of the songs had the "It factor," and didn't seem like they'd ever really be remembered by true Wayne fans. Minor complaints users had just revolved around Weezy not having a concrete direction for this album, and not really sticking with the whole "funeral" concept.
As a side note, all listeners appreciated Wayne's 24 second tribute on the 8th track "Bing James," dedicated to the late, great Kobe Bryant.
