Zippy Kid
The Ransom Letter
In the old digs I hear you speak
Of yesterdays and by one by one
You are ready to sit and eat
So you go out in the rising sun

But having said everything you can
You would have to make your final stand
At the end of a long long line
Underneath of the doughnut sign

They're all out so with best intents
You go down to the cheesesteak place
Lots of years go by present tense
Before they can recognize your face

But then it's your turn again
So they spray cheese in the bun
But who is your friend today
Tomorrow looks like it may be fun

Say to those who are still afraid
Come right back for a second time
Even if all your plans are laid
One more coffee is not a crime

You yourself have inhaled the smoke
You are nothing that is no joke
When the detective puts in your hand
The ransom letter you'll understand
Leaving you with remnants of
Your appetite and forgotten love
And you find you've no way to pay
Just get up and walk away
