Eliza Gilkyson
Painter’s Waltz
There was a garden, where my fortunes were planted
Roses of white round my head were entwined
The hand of the wind moved the wheel of my seasons
Love in the cup of my life

There was love in the cup of my life
I painted live waters, lightning, my lovers
Made birds out of lapis, snakes moulded in gold
A god of creation, for the price of my soul

Rain in the cup of my life
Drops of rain in the cup of my life
The wind took my footprints
A poet took my heart

One look of a child burned my paintings
Sorrow felled my gods
Rain in the cup of my life
Pouring rain in the cup of my life

Heart stands still, soul breathing
Lo' how the red rose carries my name
The hand of the wind moves the wheel of my seasons
Love in the cup of my life - again
There is love in the cup of my life
