Jim Carrey
Antidepressants
[Interviewer]
You talk about Jim Carrey the man, Jim Carrey the preformer... are you more comforatable as one or the other? Or is that like.. are they even mutually exclusive?
[Jim Carrey]
I dont exist. So uh. Theyre all characters that i played
Including Jim Carrey including....
Joel Barish including any of those things, theyre all characters
You know.. Jim Carrey was a less intention character because i thought i was just building something people would like...
But it was a character you know so its uh.. you know
I played thе guy that was free from concerns so that people who watchеd me would be free from concern
And at a certain point you go "Ok well... thats great but you know.."
Its like the one thing.. people talk about depression all the time the difference between depression and sadness.. is that sadness is just from happenstance
Whatever happened or didn't happen for you or yknow. grief or whatever it is
And depression is your body saying f*** you
I dont wanna be this character anymore
I dont want to hold up this. Avatar that you created in the world. Its too much for me
Y'know? And uhh a friend of mine whos a spiritual teacher has a really good take
His name is Jeff Foster
His take on it is that you should think of the word depressed as deep rest. your body needs to be depressed. It needs deep rest from the character that youve been trying to play
