Brown Bird
David and Bethsheba
From on my roof I saw her bathing
Her beauty's more than I can bear
She sparks inside of me some craving

To bathe me in her flowing hair

Around my house did I inquire
Who is this beauty, my good friend?
They said the one that you desire
Is wed to one of your best men

As he was out at battle for me
I had her brought into my room
She lay with me until the morning
Beneath the light of yonder moon

I have not seen her for a while
I just indeed have heard the news
That she is pregnant with my child
Lord, what am I supposed to do?

If I bring her husband back home, maybe
He'll go and sleep with her tonight
No one will know that it's my baby
And everything will be alright
But I'm afraid that he's already wise
To all the things that I have done
And he will see right through my lies
And all my plans will come undone

If this is so, there's just one action
That I can take to make things right
Withdraw my army from around him
That he might not survive the fight
