Brown Bird
Forest of Fevers
There are beasts in the forest of fevers tonight
And sprites in the sweat of your brow taking flight
To a field where they leave you to lay
Helpless and weak with no will left to fight
Each moment's an hour, each hour a day
You feel your flesh fleetingly fall to decay
Any perks of your affluent past
Have crumbled away
Now your only light
Has left you to wallow alone
You must swallow your pride
And call out for a friend to come
The beasts bare their teeth
And grow closer with each setting sun
Will you conquer the temptress of ignorant spite?
And release the belief everything is alright
Everything may be as it must be
But it sure ain't alright
Every choice is a challenge, each challenge a trial
You fear judge and jury, hangman and green mile
You'd best get your strategy right
Confess or denial
Now your only light
Has left you to wallow alone
You must swallow your pride
And call out for a friend to come
The beasts bare their teeth
And grow closer with each setting sun
