I’m The Only Woman (Commentary)

[Interlude]
My reason for wanting to use this Curtis Mayfield song "Give Me Your Love" is because even growing up, I watched a lot of, like, you know, movies like The Mack and Superfly. And in the movie Superfly, there's this love scene, like, he was just so in love with this woman, and he was a drug — he was trying to get out of the drug game, and he was trying to leave it all behind, and there was this woman he wanted to take with him. And um, there’s this love scene that they have in the tub and she's telling him that he has to get out and it's like a little small argument, but it’s a tiny argument and she goes to hit him and he grabs her hand and kisses it. And this music comes on — doom, doom-doom-doom — and I lost my whole mind. Like, and he just kept —he just keeps kissing her hand. I mean, this is the most amazing love scene ever because, you know, he's a huge drug dealer trying to get out of the game, she doesn't want him to get killed, and she goes to just to hit him and he grabs her hand. And this music comes on and I lose it. And I was like, I gotta use this, I got — I have to use this. I just fell in love with this, this, this song. So that's why we sampled it because I came in the studio just raving about, I have to use this Curtis Mayfield "Give Me Your Love" from the Superfly soundtrack, I have to. And um, my, my, um, lyrical content, of course, it comes from where I was at and I was basically saying, look, I'm the only woman. Basically pretty much what she was saying, I'm the only woman, you don't need anybody else. Don't be a fool like your daddy, because most of our fathers have been fools and left the woman that loved them the most or that they knew they loved. So, and I actually wrote this song with JoJo. I always wanted to write with JoJo from, um, from Jodeci, I always thought he was so dope and I loved his melodies and his tone and his voice. And I was just so excited to write this song with JoJo. It was so much fun. JoJo is so dope. JoJo actually helped me write "Joy," too, as well. That’s the story behind that
