She’s Loved Him for So Many Years
It was a cool night in October
In a little Georgia town
He put a ladder to the window
And she came climbing down
He was just a boy of twenty
She was a girl just turned fifteen
But they slipped away into night
With nothing but their dreams
Times were hard
And life was simple in 1925
But their need to be together
Kept their love alive
He loved this preacher's daughter
And carried her away
He plowed that red dirt farmland
For a dollar a day
And she's loved him for so many years
A momеnt never slipped by
That shе didn't think of him
Though many times the road was hard
Faith never disappeared
She's loved him for so many years
Eight times the pain of childbirth
She thanked the Lord for all of them
Then she felt the grief
When the Lord required
She give on back to him
She never has forgotten
She remembers to this day
For there's a little pair of overalls
She's never thrown away
And she's loved him for so many years
A moment never slipped by
That she didn't think of him
Though many times the road was hard
Faith never disappeared
She's loved him for so many years
She has stood like an oak tree
Thru all of this life's storms
But everyone who knows her
Knows where her strength comes from
The times when she's too tired to stand
She falls down on her knees
For her trust is in a God she knows
Will meet her every need
And she's loved him for so many years
A moment never slipped by
That she didn't think of him
Though many times the road was hard
Faith never disappeared
She's loved him for so many years
