Valient Thorr
Parable of Daedalus
They locked him up in the tower so high he couldn't see the ground
He sculpted labyrinths and bridges from things he found laying round
The black masts were hung for the virgin sons and daughters of the king
The mission to rescue them from a minotaur who would not sing
In the midst of celebration, they forgot to do what they were told
Poseidon cursed the heavens, a suicide from Sounion's coast
A mistake they made
Rest upon his head
He could rot in Crete
Or escape instead, come on
His son came to his aid and said "I will not let you die"
They built their wings and then they taught themselves to fly
He said "My son, don't fly too low 'cause you might drown
But don't you fly too high 'cause it's a long way down"
When they spread their wings, he knew that he was finally free
But he watched as his son flew high and dropped into the sea
Consequences, somehow he had to know
Wax on feathered wings, the heat would never go
Calculated, he thought he did the math
All that he could do now was stay on that narrow path
He could fly no higher, wings will catch on fire
He saw his son down there below, low, low, low, low
Too late, nothing to do or he would perish too
How had it come to this?
What kind of gods would cast this spell down?
Sometimes there's no explanation
It all comes crashing down
Get used to it while you're still around
No matter how hard you try, nothing's going to last forever
But when he reached the shore, he raise his head up high
They'd be surprised by something he left behind
So when they come for you and you're about to die
You have to ask yourself, "Was it worth all that I paid?"
Before the switch is pulled, scream out at the top of your lungs
You better live your life
This ain't no practice round
Don't stumble off the path
'Cause it's a long way down
