[Improvised instrumental with sampling from Jackson 5 - "I Want You Back"]
[Intro: Chiddy & Tatiana Diana]
- So, now I guess we have to move on to the, the rapping part. What do you do? You hear this song and then all of a sudden, you just - does it come to you? Do you-
- Yeah, it's a little flow, like-I don't know
I'll be like-
[Verse 1: Chiddy]
Yeah, yo
You know I'm rapping live
Won't stop 'til I'm stacking high
And make **** when Xaphoon sample Jackson 5
[Interlude: Chiddy]
When he does stuff like that, it inspires me more like, like-
[Verse 2: Chiddy & Tatiana Diana]
Take over the world, I probably could
But I be young in Hollywood
And you don't gotta even ask why 'cause the boy gon' get it
I know they can't stop me
Feeling like Gaga dodge paparazzi, yeah
And we play like Yahtzee
But, everybody else, they are not me
You know our style crazy with the wild flow
And I'm still not a child though
Ayy yo, you see me with the stylish sneakers
Walking in these Cali streets, show you how to style for weeks
Rapping s- nah, let me chill, ha, let me chill (Ha-ha-ha-ha!)
[Interlude: Tatiana Diana & Chiddy]
- Got excited? Got excited?
- Nah, let me chill, just a little-you know, let me just-
- No, that was really good
- We just keep-we just kick flows and have fun
[Interview: Tatiana Diana, Chiddy & Xaphoon Jones]
- Your single is amazing, "Opposite of Adults"
- Yeah
- How did you guys come up with that concept?
- I made the beat and I was gonna mash it up with Biggie Smalls, and he heard it [inaudible]-he heard it one day, you know, when we were making records and we was just like, "I gotta rap off that." And-
- I got the vibe of, you know, "Kids", and I, I flipped it and...tuned it back because, let's be honest, I mean, everybody wants to stay young forever, so...I heard that and that's what I felt like the beat, you know, told me to do, like..
[First 45 seconds of "Opposite of Adults" video and song plays]
[Tatiana Diana, Chiddy & Xaphoon Jones]
- We just wanted to... come together and, you know, create a video that, you know, matched the mood of the song, you know - somethin' that wasn't too serious but, you know, had a, had a light-hearted element to it. And I think we did a good job in capturing it. It was fun, we shot it in the Lower East Side, you know... We got a bunch of kids out there, you know... It was, it was positive and we had kids actin' at, as us and, you know, had big heads
- How did you guys meet each other?
- We were both freshmen last year at Drexel University and, our mutual friend Zach, uh, kind of be like, "Yo, you make good beats, you good at rhyming...y'all should make some recordings. And we did."
- Match made in heaven, definitely. So... it must be incredible to go from living in a dorm eating ramen to now recording in L.A. and doing very big things. How does that feel? [passes mic to Xaphoon Jones]
- Feels great, you know? It's like my boy Niall said, you know, it's like going from livin' off ramen to livin' off rhyming, so...
- [to Chiddy] Who has been a role model for you in the music industry?
- Black Thought from the Roots. We met him, we told him, you know, we were tryna, you know, get in the game and-We sent him our music, he heard it, he thought it was dope, he was like, 'Woah, you sampled MGMT!" And, you know, ever since then he's been, you know, takin' us out for dinner, you know, doin' some jam sessions, bringin' us out to do jam sessions, took us to The Roots Picnic, gave us advice before we had, like, official management or, you know, the industry and things to look out for, so-
- That's very cool
- -definitely a mentor
[Verse 3: Chiddy]
Yeah, the game boring
I'm in the studio recording
And in May I'ma be in London touring
I can't lie, man, I'm probably good
This interview is courtesy of Young Hollywood
And I keep doing my thing
Xaphoon on the keys moving that thing
Just wait until the climb is over, yeah
And ain't even need a respirator
We gon' take it to the top
We don't need an escalator
But they tryna lock us in like we in a elevator
It's okay, hater, yeah, I see you later
We don't do favors
We just keep it paper
[Outro: Chiddy]
Yeah, that's all I gotta say
