Papa Roach
Broken As Me - Commentary
[Jacoby Shaddix]
So when we showed up here in vegas I only had like one chorus written and ah that was the chorus to just as broken as me and that was the first song we started with. And, we wrote that song and finished that song and I knew that we were onto something great when we… when we finished that track I was like “alright cool if this is the first thing we’re gonna, we just did together like I can’t wait to see how it all comes out“

[Kevin Churko]
I’m Kevin Churko, I’m one of the producers on the new Papa Roach album. “Broken As me”, that was the first song to become nailed, it was the first song we did. And, yeah it’s a pretty hard rocking track, I think that Jacoby had, you know, a good lyrical idea coming in to the whole thing and that was important. And, you know, lyrically the song is really about how we are all the same, were all in the same situation, we all have issues, we all have problems, but, you know, you can’t necessarily be resentful towards someone else for functioning at the limitations of themselves, you know. We all have good things about us, we’re all broken in many ways, you know. Especially, I think, the longer you live, you know, the more baggage you have. So I think that’s the message why’s it’s good, it’s actually a positive message even if it’s a slightly negative lyric or a negative sounding lyric it’s actually a positive message. And I think it’s kind of probably the middle point for the record in the sense it’s not the heaviest song, not the lightest song, not poppiest, not the most metal, it’s just right in the middle of the whole thing and that probably is a good indication what the album is
