O’hene Savant
Passive (Re)gression
Yeah, every now and then I gotta show ‘em what it is, listen
I never rode another rapper’s back
I wrote a tidal wave of massive tracks
I flow my idols and make classic bap
The Bacharach of rap blacker than a track from Stacks
Action packed, ask them cats from my past of facts
I’m like a pastor that’s preachin’ in the tabernac
Readin’ every chapter as the deacons react and clap
Demons are freakin’ and screamin’ the aftermath
Like when Jesus went after that legion who attacked the man
Because my album’s out y’all gon’ need a ambulance
I cuss ‘em out and out just to start a avalanche
And drive a caravan to hang out with Farrakhan
Don’t tell me that ya understand ’til ya hear the man
My Chuck D impression, I’m luck’ly impressive
Enough that I have the luxury of meetin’ legends
A freakin’ legend, you need to heed the message
I’m ain't sayin’ I am the best, I’m sayin’ I’m the bestest
I’m sayin’ I’m asbestos
I’m sayin’ I’m too eclectic for you to even mess with
I’m sayin’ that my metrics vocally can’t be measured
Usin’ a pair of metric EQ without the specific settings they used on Lennon
I’m winnin’, I am the sugar honey ice tea
Reincarnated former leader of the I3s
My eye sees like Spike Lee so guy please
Stop tryna pull the wool over my eye like sheep
Scientific, I am gifted, scientist is admirin’ the time machine I invented
Well come and get it, in a minute I should be finished
I just did it to prohibit King from visiting Memphis
Son of a empress you sons of a b*tches
When it comes to the lyrics there is no one that’s comparin’
I swear it, my only comp is in the frickin’ mirror
If it isn’t clear in your past, then I bet it’s clearer
Um, I love hip-hop more than probably anybody you’ve ever met. And I say this as somebody who’s rapped since I was twelve years old. I bleed this stuff. So when I say to you that backpackers are hypocrites I wanna make a point that backpackers like to condemn and criticize commercial uh commercial listeners, people that listen to commercial pop hip-hop, pop rap. Uh, they dismiss it as not being creative or not real hip-hop. Too many of you uh subscribe to the idea that that is the only true hip-hop sound so much so that you are beginning to be equally as bad for hip-hop and its development as the ones who you say are destroying it with pop music and all of this other stuff that you don’t like. Having a mentality that a specific sound and a specific approach is quote unquote true hip-hop, what it does is it discourages people from stepping outside of the realms of this box that or these uh parameters that you created. So for example what I try to do with every album is bring something new to uh to the to the uh table of hip-hop uh, to the table of rap
