God’s Amazing Grace
A beggar down on Main Street
Reaches for a dime
And saves it up 'til he has enough
To drown his dreams in wine
Who sees life through a bottle
Or a wrinkled paper bag
Trying to forget about
The things he never had
To the tired and the weary
Who march on to the beat
Wondering why this drum they heard
It lead them to the street
It's not our own prosperity
That gives them hope for life
It's time we take a walk, my friends
To the gutter of our time
Stop and give them more
Than just the time of day
For we've been chosen to become
The light to shine the way
A message with our lives can show them
Jesus is the way
For I, too, would be nothing
But for God's amazing grace
We choose the perfect clothes to wear
And a touching song to sing
But we're preaching to all the privileged ones
Who came to Sunday School today
But where are we when those broken ones
Are out there dying lost
It's time we reached that unclean man
And lead him to the Cross
Stop and give them more
Than just the time of day
For we've been chosen to become
The light to shine the way
A message with our lives can show them
Jesus is the way
For I, too, would be nothing
But for God's amazing grace
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
For I, too, would be nothing
But for God's amazing grace
Amazing grace
