âCureâ came together in such a interesting way. I wouldnât say typically how we write, but also kind of really happy it happened because itâs kind of a happy accident but, umm, Karah and Mickey just jumped on a Zoom with their friend Joe to just write and they, uh, I remember that day I was like âOh man, like try to write something that like we donât have yet, like a feeling or try to tap into something that, you know, weâre missing on this EP right nowâ and I remember at the end of the day thĐ”y sent back the demo, and I was likĐ” âOh âCureâ, cool, cool titleâ and I clicked on it and at first like âOh oh manâ I didnât like particularly love the song at first, I was like âOh, this is really cool, like letâs put it in the, put it in the vault, you know if weâre passionate about it, weâll revisit it and weâll figure it outâ and I remember Karah being like âNo Rob, like I swear like this is like, this is the song that needs to be on the EP. This feels fresh for us, itâs just different, itâs like so like pop rock and we havenât done anything with guitars in a whileâ and weâre just like âWe need, weâre craving a feeling like this,â and I remember we then went back to the basement and like we started working on it, and like the second I started singing like the chorus, I like stopped and I was like âUghh, what the hell was I thinking? Like I love this song. This is so fun to sing!â Um, and we worked a bunch of stuff, we wrote that bridge with the âCureâ reference, and again, we love bridges that kind of just like take you to like a world where you can scream and shout and um, I remember after that got laid down we were like âOh man, this song is really, really, really specialâ and live now, itâs just unbelievable, like we get to just like rock out and like have so much fun on stage and again, that bridge just like it my favorite moment in the song. We hit that live, itâs just like âBoys donât cry!â Like itâs so, so powerful. So yeah, and I think we landed this song lyrically in a way where like again, itâs pretty self-explanatory but we also like, uh like the second verse I think has some of my favorite lyrics like âDonât wanna be a shrink and tell you what to think or tell you how to feel / But I can be your roots so carve it in a tree and we can make it realâ like we still managed to kind of fit in that kind of imagery and those kind of like words that kind of, umm, I think weâve kind of developed kind of our own lyrical style as Valley and weâve, um, weâve managed to kind of like paint with both brushes where, you know, itâs kind of the direct heart-on-sleeve thing, but also we can, you know we can still kinda get into a little bit more of a story and, and give you colors and imagery and things that, you know, arenât as typical form or shape for lyrics, so yeah. Really, really happy this song is out
