Matt Maltese
Quietest Town in England
The traffic is too heavy
A man shouts to the air
I saw a dog at the window
I was never even there
They ask me if I'm busy
If I have a moment to spare
It's always the same in this city
People going 'round and 'round, but nowhere
Sometimes, in my daydreams, I go
Back to cobblestones
Back to silent movies
One car on the road
I think that might have moved me
A hundred years ago, this was the quietest town in England
The cranes are too many
The streetlights too bright
Man turns green to mean go
But we've all gone home tonight
They ask me if I'm lonely
If I wanna take a call
But at least my pillow knows me
While I know nothing at all
Back to picture postcards
Back to skyline beauty
Milk floats in the morning
Think that might have moved me
A hundred years ago, this was the quietest town in England
I saw some old film, black and white
Everyone in the picture bright
It's easy to romanticise, I know
But the mind goes where it goes
A single hat on every head
Everyone in this photo's dead
It's easy to romanticise, I know
But the heart goes where it goes
Sometimes, in my daydreams, I go
Back to cobblestones
Back to silent movies
One car on the road
I think that might have moved me
A hundred years ago, this was the quietest town in England
Quietest town in England
Quietest town in England
