Erin Rae
Refugee
I dreamed I was a refugee
Alone and on my own
I dreamed I was a refugee
On a road without a home
I fell down on my knees
And prayed it was a dream
I died there on that road
No one to comfort me

I saw my children die
A sight I could not bear
I saw my wife fall down
And beg for mercy there
I saw a deep dark pit
Filled with the ones I love
I saw their bodies there
Face-down in the mud

I woke and found
That I was lying in my bed
I saw my precious love
And that we were not dead
I dreamed I was a refugee
Alone and on my own
I dreamed I was a refugee
On a road without a home
