Poison Tree
Your shallow eyes cannot see
Behind the mask you made for me
The ash is in the air we breathe
We ate from the branch of a poison tree
And you know what? It almost poisoned me
But I'm too slick and poised to leave
So I slipped and switched drinks then dipped and watched you sip the poison instead of me
In this poetry, there's no one ahead of me
Because there's no one with this head on me
And it might be crazy, or it might be brilliant
Then why do I have the temptation to hold it
Lift the gun and unleash the bullet
My mind races with living water, you can't mold this
Like cheap shots of whiskey, you can't hold this
And you can't enslave me mentally or sexually
You shoulda seen the letters and texts to me
Billy Graham Jr turned Johnny Cash, boy you best believe
That's why I flipped off the religious and turned to leave
Your shallow eyes cannot see
Behind the mask you made for me
The ash is in the air we breathe
We ate from the branch of the poison tree
Yeah, I ate from the poison tree, but please don't grieve
Here, wipe your tear on my sleeve
But honestly, would you care if I leave?
Because everyday I ask Jamie how I can get out of the spotlight
You're supposed to love popularity, but this is not right
Your hopes and wishes are not mine
You wish for fame and money, and that's okay, but that's not fine
All I wish for is peace of mind
Here's a piece of mine
For the blog site stalkers to chew on like Dahmer, Mr. Jeffrey
People write about me online like they know me but never met me
And I'd destroy these people online if Jamie would just let me
But she keeps me stable when I'm unable
I grew up on the operating table
No joke, amigo, this is no fable
They'll pick you apart for every sin if they're able
Middle fingers, tossed chairs, and flipped tables
Kept it documented, a hundred journals from Staples
Religion taught me fairytales mixed with fables delivered by fanatics
But I broke free, and my mission is to trash it, call it out and unmask it
I'm here to attack it
You listen 'cause you back it
Ammunition when I stack it
Religion can get blasted
It's too bad sheeple can't get past it
But following rules and regulations hasn't been easy, has it?
Imagine if they put your secret sins on screens while the people sat laughing
This is real for me
You're fake, but I'm not acting
Death threats against my family, I got a 9 milly that I'm packing
And that's not the only thing that I'm packing
This suitcase is filled to the top, and I'm ready to rock
I'm headed to my favorite tree to sit under my God rock
I wish I could stop eating from this poison tree, but I just can't stop
Your shallow eyes cannot see
Behind the mask you made for me
The ash is in the air we breathe
We ate from the branch of the poison tree
