What is a Transcriber?
What is a Transcriber?A Genius Transcriber is a trusted contributor who has proven they can consistently contribute high quality transcriptions. It's also important that they exercise sound judgment when adding or editing lyrics, accepting or rejecting other users' lyric edit proposals, and marking a song's lyrics as complete. Each song that a Transcriber transcribes or edits should be as accurate and complete as possible and match up with Genius' established formatting and style guidelines.
Transcribers are leaders on the sitе, setting a high bar not only for lyrical quality but also through interactions with other community mеmbers. Transcribers are expected to uphold and adhere to Genius transcription etiquette for new releases and work out lyrical discrepancies amicably with other users when debates arise.Transcriber permissions:• Orange badge

Moderators and Staff can grant the Transcriber role, but anyone with transcription experience on Genius can help mentor you!
If you feel your contributions adhere to our transcription guidelines, tag @mentors in the comments section of songs you've transcribed and a member of our mentorship team will take a look. You can also reach out to a Moderator directly who can either help you out or point you in the right direction. A great way to get noticed is to actively participate in our transcribers forum and Discord channel.
Before reaching out, ask yourself a few things:
• Do I frequently transcribe songs and edit lyrics / submit lyric edit proposals on songs transcribed by others?
• Do my transcriptions and lyric edits consistently adhere to Genius' formatting standards?
• Am I confident in which lyrics I'm sure of and which lyrics I need help with?
• Am I aware of Genius' transcription etiquette and adhere to it?
• Do my metadata edits only reflect official sources and not speculated credits?Essential Reading for Transcribers• How to Add Songs to Genius

Transcriptions should have strong lyrical accuracy, be formatted correctly, and follow Genius' grammatical conventions. These standards apply to both transcriptions you complete as well as transcriptions you approve. If the quality of your transcriptions is consistently subpar or you abuse the role in any way, you may lose the Transcriber role. However, if you demonstrate consistent improvement in transcription quality, you may be able to regain the Transcriber role.
Here are the guidelines for losing the Transcriber role:
If your transcriptions and lyric edits fall below standard, a mentor will reach out to give you feedback and help you get back on track. Making less than 50 transcriptions or transcription approvals in the time span of a year will also prompt mentors to review your transcriptions.
In either case, if your transcriptions and lyric edits are consistently below standard or you show an unwillingness to improve, you may lose your role.
In the event that you lose the Transcriber role, you may attempt to earn it back by continuing to practice with your mentor(s) until you're consistently contributing great transcriptions and lyric edits again.
On Genius, we have a zero-tolerance policy for abusive or exploitative behavior. If you are abusing/harassing other users, breaking forum guidelines, exploiting the IQ system, or plagiarizing, you will lose your Transcriber role.
